Our championship exists to promote close, fair and consistent racing at all times.  To achieve this we shall employ a Balance of Performance (BoP) which is defined not only within our regulations but also via technical sheets through a season for a particular car or car type to ensure that the variety of car types and platforms can meet our objective.

Race Technologies (RT) have been appointed as our BoP service to work alongside our technical team to ensure not only initial compliance but continued compliance throughout a season.

Championship BoP Process

  • Pre-season chassis dyno test in race trim at Tegiwa – parameters recorded – cam cover, turbo, sump and ECU sealed as appropriate (no charge to teams)
  • Car weight recorded on URC scales at Tegiwa in race trim
  • Advice of adjustment of power/weight to meet basic power to weight URC regulations
  • RT provide a wiring harness and mounting bracket for each car in consultation with each team’s harness requirement
  • On event RT will connect a GSM powered data logger via the harness and will monitor real time data when cars are on track
  • All car performance evaluated to assess BoP compliance and adjustment indicators
  • Any discrepancies or BoP adjustments that are recognised will be passed to the URC technical team for evaluation/action
  • Any alterations to BoP for cars will be communicated transparently and any adjustments explained in full
  • BoP shall be altered by various methods including boost, power, weight, ride height where required

It is the absolute intention to find the balance of each car to retain close, fair and consistent racing throughout the grid, regardless of car type or model and the BoP   process shall continously evolve.

RT further explain thier involvement in URC:

Race Technology is collaborating with the Ultimate Racing Championship (URC) for 2025.  The URC is a perfect match for Race Technology’s cutting-edge solutions.

Through this collaboration, we will be providing state-of-the-art data acquisition systems, real-time telemetry, and comprehensive performance analysis tools.   These technology will enable us to provide an accurate balance of performance to ensure close and fair racing, and to aid with scrutineering.

At Race Technology, we control the balance of performance. Our advanced data acquisition systems measure acceleration and speed, allowing us to determine the power output of each vehicle. By using this data, we can create realistic simulations that help us fine-tune performance parameters and ensure a fair and competitive racing environment. Additionally, we utilize advanced analysis tools to compare race cars’ performance in cornering, braking, and acceleration. Whilst carefully removing the driver ability, we leave balanced cars for racing.

The cloud-based, robust and reliable Race Technology RTSS_SL data logger will be used by URC.  The RTSS_SL has been in production for more than 6 years and continues to be one of Race Technology’s best-selling products.  Approximately 1000 units are in service worldwide in a wide range of sporting and engineering applications.  Race Technology data loggers in various versions have been used for more than 10 years in race scrutineering. The RTSS_SL is currently used for official scrutineering by SRO race series worldwide as well as many other domestic and International race series in the UK, Europe and USA.

This collaboration is a testament to the robustness and precision of our technology, as it undergoes the ultimate test in data management and analysis. From monitoring vehicle dynamics to providing real-time performance data, our solutions play a crucial role in ensuring that every car operates within the limits.

URC’s Mike Mattison (Chief Technical) comments:

Highly competitive professional racing requires closely monitored balance of performance especially when we consider the variety of machines that will be on the grid and is the technical foundation of the championship. We have a sizable job to perform in year 1 to ensure balance.

Race Technologies are tasked with the absolute measurement, guidance and adjustment of our BoP when issued and I have every confidence in them performing this given not only their expertise in this field but also our technical teams prior working relationship with them on other championships at high level.

They are independent and will work alongside my eligibility team to ensure cars are monitored with performance matters explained transparently with teams and any on-going adjustments performed within the championship.

Race Technologies have been appointed to ensure this technical area is delivered accurately as any team would expect.
